Saltire’s apprentices are the future of our business, and of the growing renewables sector. Apprentices have always been a fundamental part of Saltire’s successful growth, and as we continue to pivot our business towards renewables, they’ll form an even more critical part of our future.

There are a whole host of reasons to make apprentices central to your business plans. For example, apprentices are the best, most cost-efficient way to bring in large numbers of young people, and train them to do things exactly as you want them done. It’s also a sign that you’re committed to the economic success of your community, and represents long-term well-paying jobs to the local economy.

But apprenticeships are a two-way street, and the benefits to employers of apprentices are massive. A survey conducted by Skills Development Scotland shows that employers of apprentices are making a smart investment, because they’re getting more than just good workers; they’re also developing young people with excellent soft skills.

  • 96% of employers say apprentices are more equipped to do their job well

  • 92% of employers say apprentices are more able to work well in a team

  • More than three quarters of employers say that apprentices increase organisational productivity, boost morale, and improve the quality of service provided

Our young people, when they come to Saltire, are receiving much more than training on how to do a specific job; they’re being given the work and life skills to become effective leaders of the future. That’s why we so heavily invest in apprentices – an investment in them is an investment in the future of our business, as well as a way to improve our customers’ experience with us. What’s not to love?

Saltire is part of the United Capital group, and as part of that we’re looking at the formation of an Apprenticeship Academy. This is hugely exciting for us, as we’ll be giving young people across all trades and all locations a massive opportunity to be part of our future. As we move towards a carbon-neutral world, where renewables are the dominant source of power generation, we are developing young people who are skilled, ambitious, and ready to lead people.
