Saltire’s Community Engagement Team are absolutely delighted to be back out on the road, meeting young people throughout the local community, and inspiring many of them to apply to join our thriving Apprenticeship Programme.
Over the last two years, opportunities to meet young people in schools, colleges, community centres, have been limited. Now that the restrictions associated with the Coronavirus pandemic are at an end, Saltire’s Community Engagement Team are back to doing what they do best; showing young people that a career in home services can be exciting, rewarding, and challenging right from the start.
Saltire has hit the ground running with community visits again, most recently attending a Skills for Work and Life event at Forgewood Community Centre, and with more events to come this year.
Building sustainable communities is hugely important to Saltire, as one of North Lanarkshire’s largest employers for the last 20 years. Strengthening ties with the local community is a priority for the company, which is one of Scotland’s foremost partners of public sector organisations such as councils and social landlords.
As part of the United Capital group, Saltire has a thriving Apprenticeship Programme, and is currently training more than two dozen young people in a range of trades. Saltire’s apprentice programme was praised earlier this year by Stephanie Callaghan MSP, during Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
Speaking of her visit with some of Saltire’s apprentices, she commented “Saltire are a local success story. Throughout its history, providing apprenticeships to local people has been at the heart of its strategy. The Saltire apprentices I have met love their jobs, they love earning while they’re learning, and they enjoy the job security too.”
Saltire Managing Director Alan Murray, said “Saltire is first and foremost an organisation with community at its heart, whether that’s working in close partnership with social landlords and councils, or through initiatives such as school and college visits. We are really pleased to be out and about talking to young people again; it’s important that we show young people how varied and challenging a career in home services can be, and how they can contribute to a shift towards sustainability across our industry.”
